Milken Shuttle

Know when the shuttle leaves.

An iPhone app for students and staff that shows the next shuttle between Jan Koum and Ruby Family campuses.

Built by Jayden Ghiyam and Liam Daneshvar, Milken students.

Today

What it does today

  • Next departure

Shows the next shuttle from the campus you're at.

  • Full daily schedule

Times come from the school's Daily Shuttle Schedule poster.

  • Reminders

A notification a few minutes before the run you pick.

  • Lock Screen countdown

Time to the next shuttle without opening the app.

  • School sign-in only

Sign-in is limited to @milkenschool.org emails.

  • No stale times

When the phone is offline, the app says so instead of showing old times.

Status: a working build is in Apple's TestFlight. The App Store version is in review.

A possibility

Live van location

Right now the app uses the posted schedule. The school's two shuttle vans already have Verizon Connect units. If the school wants it, the app could use them to show where the vans really are. This is an idea to discuss, not something that is set up.

  • Sent automatically

Verizon Connect Reveal could send each van's location to the app's server with a GPS webhook.

  • Where and when

Riders could see where each van is and when it will arrive.

  • Which way it's going

The app could tell riders whether a van is heading to Ruby Family Campus or the Athletic Training Center, based on its route.

  • Nothing new to install

It would need no new hardware, no driver phones and no cost to install.

Privacy

What the app never collects

  • No student data

No names or data from the school portal.

  • No user list

Sign-in uses only a school email and a one-time code. No list of users is stored.

  • Rider location stays on the phone

It is used only to pick the nearest campus and is never sent anywhere.

  • No ads or tracking

    No ads, tracking or analytics.

  • Van location only

If connected, from Verizon only van location, heading and time. Not speed, fuel, braking or driver data.

  • Service hours only

If connected, van location would be shown only during shuttle service hours.

Let's meet

Next step

I'd like a short meeting to show you the app in person. We can also talk through whether connecting the vans' location makes sense.
